Civic Design I

This course is for anyone interested in the collective study of strategies + methodologies for designing something new in their communities/everyday life. Close reading of a series of case studies is supported by tools used to deeply observe/stretch/re-understand a problem and imagine new artistic interventions in public. Through a combination of direct instruction, collective study, and guided solo exploration, the course encourages each participant to explore examples of civic design, deepen their own interest, work towards a shared understanding of the content, and engage their creativity towards civic change. Finally, this course readies participants to imagine and design their own public interventions for future prototyping.
