A Framework That Keeps the Conversation Going

When Design Studio for Social Intervention published Ideas, Arrangements, Effects: Systems Design and Social Justice in 2020, it offered a simple but provocative premise. Every social problem we face is the effect of ideas and the arrangements built to carry them out. If we want different effects, we have to change the ideas and arrangements behind them.

That premise, now known widely as the IAE framework, has traveled far beyond the page. It has shaped workshops, campaigns, classrooms, community projects and informed the work of many social practitioners, activists and scholars.

Marking the milestones

To honor the book's journey, DS4SI has hosted a series of commemorations over the years, inviting keynote speakers to engage the framework in open, public debate. Each event explored how IAE can help us rethink some of the most complex social issues of our time. The result is a living archive of ideas in action: thinkers testing the framework against real challenges, questioning it, stretching it, and showing what it makes possible.
