In 2017, DS4SI designed Social Emergency Response Centers (SERCs) to help people understand the moment we’re in, and help us move from rage and despair into collective, radical action. The social emergency that we are facing today includes Israel’s ongoing occupation and current massive bombardment of Palestine, state-sanctioned violence against Black communities, gentrification, environmental devastation, and more.
At DS4SI, we believe that we must always frame the problem big enough to see ourselves in it. In this case, we cannot look away from the massive military and political support that the U.S. gives Israel. We must understand the violent, dehumanizing rhetoric and massive military support coming from U.S. leadership in this moment, but also the long history of our one-sided role in the region. We are holding this SERC on Election Day to frame this problem as a problem of our nation-state.
On November 7th, we invite you to the Design Gym as we create space for collective healing, making, cooking, and plotting. Let us to witness each other, eat together, reconnect with our breath and bodies, learn from each other, and begin to imagine forms of radical action.
We look forward to having you! Come through anytime between 4-8pm.
