The course "Not Your Grampa Diaspora" is intended to discuss the paradigm shift from Assimilation to Transnational Integration - Being Here and There. By contrasting these two ways of seeing immigration, immigrants, and their daily lives, we can design better integration policies based on citizenship rights and the doctrine of human rights. We touch on issues concerning integration, assimilation, transnationalism, human rights, and public policy design. Practical examples from diverse immigrant communities will be given throughout the course. The course will be "thought" on a one-day, two-hour session.
This workshop is on 5/19 from 3pm - 5pm at the Design Gym.
