United States Social Forum Public Space Project

Another world is possible - Another United States is necessary !

The USSF:
The United State’s first national social forum being held in Atlanta Georgia this June 27th through July 1st.
This country's first foray into the world social forum process is an opportunity for progressive and radical organizers and community members to build relationships, learn from others' experiences, share our ideas about the issues our communities are facing, and envision a different reality for ourselves.
The USSF organizers are doing a wonderful job. Check out the USSF site USSF site and give them some love.

DS4SI & USSF:
Several of DS4SI's core interests converge in the work we are doing with the USSF: game design and play, the cultural commons and designing for reciprocity, and collaborative interdisciplinary intervention design process.
DS4SI is working with members of the USSF host organization, Project South, as the Local Outreach and Public Space Team. Under the auspices of the Public Space Team, DS4SI is leading a process for designing interventions to activate public space. We are working in collaboration with Project South, the USSF’s wider network of planners and DS4SI’s network of collaborators, special operatives and co-consipirators.

Come join us in Atlanta!:

The United States Social Forum seeks to offer participants not just a chance to enter into dialogue about the future, but to experience what it might feel like to live in that “other world”! We think it’d be fun! From Sweet Auburn to Little Five Points, we are activating common spaces to be areas of reflection, play, and more. Jump in a city-wide game, help us “light up” a bike path, join the party after a New Orleans Second Line meets a Hawaiian hula dance group. Try something you can’t imagine. !

Little Five Points Celebration of Life : In memory of the life and community contributions of community activist
Ebon Dooley.
The event will include a range of creative expression activities including a skatepark, capoiera and juggling performances, mural arts, games, film festival, and a block party: FUN, FUN, FUN in Little Five!

ActionQuest: ATL - A Big Urban Game for the USSF :
It's a game. It's a very big game. And you're invited.
Play is a nonpolluting renewable resource, and we intend to harness it to generate fresh perspectives on social change and delightful new ways to be with each other. Across the five days of the USSF and through the neighborhoods of Atlanta, you can join us in imagining and enacting another possible world.
DS4SI is designing and deploying ActionMap in partnership with the Georgia Institute of Technology Emergent Game Group (
egg).

Remember Sweet Auburn :
As cities and neighborhoods struggle to resist displacement and loss from privatization, gentrification, and predatory planning, it is important to honor the cultural resistance and liberation struggles around the U.S. Join us in Sweet Auburn as we create a place to honor Atlanta's African American history and to bring together different cultural and community builders to celebrate and strengthen our cultural commons.
See DS4SI’s projects page
projects page for more info on the full scope of our Cultural Commons activities.

The USSF Bike/Walk Path :
Did you know you can get to most USSF events on foot or bike? We know it’s
hot, but the bike/walk path is a great way to see Atlanta’s neighborhoods, bump into the world’s most famous sweet potato pie, or just walk and talk with a new friend. Hop on it to see historic Sweet Auburn on your way to a ceremony at Studioplex, or run into a city-wide game on your way to a Little Five Points film festival. Get out and see that other world we’re trying to make possible!
